First choice was our favourite haunt...La Fattoria...which they know...and on a gorgeous summer evening we sat outside as the sun went down. Perfect start.
Many people would say...we like to see the prices of our choices... and there is a menu card...but owner Chester appeared as usual with his list of what is NOT on the menu. You have to concentrate as he reels off 10 starters...5 pasta dishes..a few fish courses and a couple of meat selections. You order, then sit back...and enjoy.

Only the men were drinking...so I had taken along a bottle of red...and ordered a white from the list.

Were Dreams now it is just wine 2009
Friuli, Italy
The 2008 on the list turned out to be the following vintage.
Glorious golden colour...the whole table were impressed. I was hoping the colour didn't mean a heavyweight. Super nose...gentle oak...exotic...hard to pull your nose back out of the glass. All well until now...taste it..before you go over the top Barry. Butterball...but so well balanced...apricots...and a touch of citrus. Crazy name for a wine...no crazy wine though...this is top class.

Knipser Mergelweg Spätburgunder 2005
Pfalz, Germany
Classic Pfalz...raspberries...on the palate dry red berry fruit...still complex...although maybe missing the bite that made me give this 18 points a few years ago. Very good though...

White first...then the red...as is 'normal'...but the red would have paired better with the octopus. The white was perfect with the starter...but the Kalbbries would have loved it. Something worth trying in the future...red first...then the white...the wine god will be frowning down on me!
