M is for Marvelous

On the spur of the moment...friend Volker called and said he was on his own-some for the evening...and he would barbecue some meat. I'll bring wines I said...and a warm summer evening was enjoyed by both...
The lamp he had found in an old house...so ugly it is beautiful!

                                         F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner M
                                                 Loibner Berg 2003
                                                 Wachau, Austria
Medium yellow...spices...Crème brûlée...sweet fruit..and a still very much all there...with a minerality that defies it's 9 years. Great length..a top GV...and one of my Ebay 'Bargains of the Year'
Points 17.75

                                                     Friedrich Becker
                                  Kammerberg Spätburgunder G.G. 2006
                                                    Pfalz, Germany
Last tried this about 2 years ago...
My notes then...
'Jump in and drown aroma'..truffles...spices...adorable..trace of cherries.....just so much cream and charm...no tannins...can it age?...will it get the chance?....I doubt it...a touch finer than the Sankt Paul...some would say that € 45,-- for a German red wine is too high..they should wash their mouth out with soap and water...the same quality in France would cost twice as much. Bravo Herr Becker!
Points 18

Did it age?...well both Volker & I looked for excuses...like a one-off weak bottle...or has it really not aged...and lost that gorgeous middle flavour.
There is grainy tannin...and the acidity is noticable...not the wow-wine I was hoping would be a great follow up to the 'M'.
Points 16

Back to the 'M' with a selection of cheeses...perfect match again...
