Pichler & Pichler

Sounding like a firm of lawyers......but 2 different properties.
This one had been lingering in the cellar for a while...sauerkraut on the menu...so something special.

Von Den Terrassen 2002
Wachau, Austria
This one had been lingering in the cellar for a while....from a mixed case of aged GV's. Sauerkraut on the menu...so something special.
Bouquet opened with a good airing...even a trace of Riesling petroleum. The usual white pepper...and some ingwer (ginger)....the fruit is intense still...but not to 'slabby'...with a fine balance of acidity. Seven years old...and still sprightly...this will see 10 years with ease.

Rudi Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd
Wösendorfer Hochrain 2007
Wachau, Austria
Medium yellow with definite green tinge...lighter style you think...and initially yes...but left overnight this broadened it's shoulders...pears and smoke...clear minerality...and a silky fruit...lithe...and this could creep up on you with a little more age. I bought 6 bottles of this on Ebay...at half the price on offer in the shops. Was I lucky...or is GV still an insider tip?
